The short answer
For a five-page small business website, published local ranges run from about AUD 3,000–10,000 in Australia, £3,000–12,000 from UK agencies, USD 2,000–8,000 from US freelancers and €1,500–7,000 in Ireland. The same five pages from us, with an editable content system and writing for the home page, cost a fixed AUD 591, GBP 327, USD 391 or EUR 381.
Those numbers are not like for like, and you should not treat them as if they were. Local quotes usually include things our starter scope does not: copywriting for every page, strategy workshops, in-person meetings and SEO setup. The rest of this guide shows where the gap comes from, so you can decide which parts you actually need.
| Market | Published local range | Liquid Flame Design (fixed) |
|---|---|---|
| Australia | AUD 3,000–10,000 (small business site) | AUD 591 |
| United Kingdom | £3,000–12,000 (agency brochure site) | GBP 327 |
| United States | USD 2,000–8,000 (freelancer, 5–10 pages) | USD 391 |
| Ireland (EU) | €1,500–7,000 (small business site) | EUR 381 |
Local ranges are taken from providers’ own 2026 pricing guides, linked in section 3. Our prices exclude domain, hosting and any taxes.
Three scopes we compared
“A website” can mean a single landing page or a 40-page catalogue, so we priced three fixed scopes. Each one uses our standard inclusions: up to six sections per page, mobile layouts, contact links, an enquiry form, basic search metadata and two consolidated revision rounds within the agreed design.
- One-page launch site. A single page with your supplied text and images. Good for a new business, a single service or a campaign.
- Five-page small business site. Home, About, Services, a second service or portfolio page, and Contact. Includes an editable content system so you can update text yourself, and writing for the home page.
- Ten-page business site. The five-page scope plus five more standard pages, for example separate service, location or FAQ pages. Same editable content system and home-page writing.
None of these includes an online shop. Ecommerce, bookings and other custom functions are quoted separately. Our ecommerce checklist explains what drives that price.
What local providers publish
There is no official price index for websites. The best public evidence is what local agencies and platforms publish about their own market. Every source below sells websites, so read the ranges as their estimates, not a neutral survey.
| Market | One page | Small business site (about 5 pages) | Larger site (10+ pages) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Australia | Not published separately | AUD 3,000–10,000 | Not published separately | WP Creative, updated Aug 2026 |
| UK | £300–2,000 | £1,500–6,000 (freelancer); £3,000–12,000 (agency) | £5,000–15,000 (agency, 10–20 pages) | WebWave, Mar 2026; Kwiboo, Jan 2026 |
| US | USD 500–3,000 | USD 2,000–8,000 (freelancer); USD 3,000–10,000 (agency) | USD 8,000–25,000 (agency, 10–20 pages) | WebWave, Mar 2026 |
| Ireland (EU) | Not published separately | €500–1,500 (freelancer, basic); €1,500–7,000 (small business site) | €1,900–12,000 excl. VAT across Dublin pricing tiers | Web60; Vimar; Kolonell, Sep 2026 |
Hourly rates explain most of the difference. UK freelancers quote around £240–550 a day, according to Kwiboo. WP Creative lists on-demand development at AUD 150 an hour. Startups.co.uk puts UK small agencies at £50–150 an hour and offshore teams at £10–25 an hour (Startups.co.uk, Mar 2026). Labour is the largest cost in a website, so where the team lives sets most of the price.
Our fixed prices in every currency
These come directly from our website estimator. Each currency has its own fixed price. They are not live exchange-rate conversions, so the price you see is the price on your written quote.

What the lower price leaves out
A price this far below local quotes should make you ask what is missing. Here is the list, so you do not have to find out halfway through a project.
- You supply the content. Apart from the optional home-page writing, the text and images come from you. If you need every page written, photographed or translated, that is quoted separately. Content is often the slowest part of any website project.
- No workshops or site visits. We work remotely, by video call, WhatsApp and email, during our hours of 9 am–6 pm Sri Lanka time (UTC+5:30). Our guide to working with an overseas agency covers how to plan reviews across time zones.
- Two revision rounds, within the agreed design. A new direction or further rounds get a separate quote before work continues.
- Basic search metadata, not an SEO campaign. Each page gets proper titles, descriptions and structure. Keyword research, local SEO and content plans are a separate, scoped service.
- Domain, hosting, licences and taxes are extra. They are listed separately in your written quote, including renewal costs.
- No local legal knowledge. If your industry has advertising, privacy or accessibility rules, tell us. We will build what you need, but we do not give legal advice for your market.
Most of the price gap is labour cost, not shortcuts. Each item above is a real difference in service, though, so compare it against what a local quote actually gives you.
Running costs after launch
The build is a one-time cost. Running the site is not, whoever builds it.
- Domain: a yearly renewal, registered in your name. It should be registered in your account, not your developer’s. Our overseas agency guide covers account ownership.
- Hosting: WP Creative quotes managed hosting in Australia at around AUD 50–150 a month. Simple sites can often run for much less. We quote hosting separately so you can see the real figure.
- Care and updates: optional. Our website care plan covers a monthly check and small text or image updates. Australian agencies quote maintenance retainers from about AUD 1,250 a month (WP Creative).
Compared with a website builder: Squarespace in the UK costs £12–79 a month on annual billing, with its recommended Core plan at £17 (ExpertSure, prices verified July 2026). Over three years, Core alone comes to about £612. That includes hosting, but you design the site and write the content yourself. A builder is a sensible choice if you have the time and enjoy the work. If you would rather have it done for you, a fixed one-time build plus your own hosting can cost less over the same three years.
When a local agency is the better choice
We would rather you choose well than choose us. A local agency is likely to serve you better if:
- you need someone in the room for workshops, photography or stakeholder meetings;
- your project depends on local regulation, local-language copywriting or knowledge of the local market;
- you want one provider for the website plus ongoing local SEO, advertising and content;
- your procurement rules require a supplier registered in your country.
We are a good fit if you already know your business and customers, can supply the content (or pay for writing as an extra), and want a well-built, fast, mobile-friendly site at a fixed price agreed in writing.
How we built these numbers
- Our prices are copied from our live website estimator on 5 November 2026. They are fixed per currency, not converted at a daily rate.
- Local prices are the ranges that local agencies, freelancers and platforms published in their own 2026 pricing guides, linked above with their publication dates. We did not adjust or average them. Some sources sell website builders or agency services, which may affect their figures.
- Scopes are matched as closely as the sources allow. Where a source does not publish a range for a scope, the table says so rather than guessing.
- Tax: local ranges may or may not include GST or VAT; most sources do not say. Our prices exclude any taxes.
We will review this guide when our prices or the published market ranges change. The date at the top shows the last review.
Common questions
Why is a Sri Lankan studio so much cheaper?
Mainly labour and living costs. The tools are the same, and we work to the same published standards, including the WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines and Google’s Core Web Vitals. The starter scope is also deliberately narrow: you supply the content, and extras are priced openly instead of bundled in.
Do I pay in my own currency?
AUD, GBP, USD, EUR and LKR each have fixed prices. Your written quote confirms the currency, payment method and milestones before work starts. The estimator does not list Canadian dollars yet, so Canadian clients should ask which currency to use.
Will I have to pay VAT or GST on top?
Our prices exclude taxes. If your business is registered for VAT or GST, buying services from an overseas supplier can mean you account for the tax yourself under reverse-charge rules. Your accountant can confirm how this applies to you.
Who owns the website?
You do. Domain, hosting and other accounts should be registered in your name, and the agreed final files are handed over at the end of the project. Confirm this in writing with any provider, local or overseas.
Can I start with one page and add more later?
Yes. Many clients launch a one-page site and add pages when they are ready. Later additions are quoted at the rates current at the time.
